China now has 28% of the home appliance market in Europe

WHAT HAPPENED

Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Slovakia asked the EU for a plan to support their home appliance factories. Products made in Asia already represent 28.2% of European sales.

WHY IT MATTERS

European factories face higher energy and raw material costs while competing with cheaper Asian products. The sector contributes €79 billion and employs one million people. A tariff could increase import costs.

AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

For long-term investors, the dispute shows how trade policy can change costs, jobs, and profits in an industry. There are still no tariffs: Brussels is considering less red tape, funds to modernize plants, and more recycling.

💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS

“Europe is trying to make its home appliance factories compete with Asia without turning the refrigerator into a more expensive product.”
