China creates 10.5 million urban jobs, close to its annual target
WHAT HAPPENED
China created 10.52 million urban jobs between January and September: 87.7% of its annual target of 12 million. The urban unemployment rate averaged 5.2% until August. The government will boost services and AI training.
WHY IT MATTERS
More employment usually means families have money to spend on restaurants, tourism, cars, and electronics. If hiring slows down, Chinese factories and the countries supplying them with raw materials may also sell less.
AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO
For a long-term investor, Chinese employment helps gauge the health of a consumer and a key factory for the world. AI training also shows how companies might change costs, productivity, and jobs.
💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS
“If China maintains employment, it sustains consumption and factories; if it slows down, the effect can reach raw material suppliers.”
