Spain: prices rise 4.3% in August due to higher gasoline costs

WHAT HAPPENED

Inflation in Spain rose to 4.3% annually in August, up from 3.6% in July, its highest level since February 2023. The monthly increase was 0.7%, driven by gasoline. The figure is still provisional.

WHY IT MATTERS

The conflict in the Middle East raised oil prices, which increased fuel costs. Transportation, logistics, agriculture, and deliveries feel the impact first; later, prices for fruits, clothing, and other products may rise. Core inflation decreased to 2.9%, indicating that the rest of the economy is not accelerating at the same rate.

AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

For a long-term portfolio, the difference matters: broad inflation is not the same as a concentrated hit on energy. Companies that rely heavily on fuel may face higher costs, while households with cars allocate more money to the tank and less to other expenses.

💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS

“Gasoline ignited Spanish inflation: the impact starts at the tank and can end up in the price of almost everything.”
