Micron rises 5.5% after Intel's warning about memory shortage
WHAT HAPPENED
Intel warned that memory for computers and servers is very limited and that the shortage could worsen in 2027. Prices have already risen between 5 and 7 times. Micron, a pick from Vectorial, rose 5.5% to $977.50.
WHY IT MATTERS
Artificial intelligence data centers are buying enormous amounts of memory. With little supply and high demand, Micron can charge more for each chip. The market expects to know on September 30 if this has boosted its sales and profits.
AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO
The news supports Micron's thesis: selling a scarce input during the artificial intelligence boom can improve its results. It also shows the risk: if demand cools off or production increases, enthusiasm may decline. More expensive memory could raise the prices of laptops, cell phones, and servers.
