Mexico: Manufacturing PMI Falls to 49.8 in August and Enters Contraction
WHAT HAPPENED
The Mexican manufacturing PMI fell from 51.3 in July to 49.8 in August. Since 50 separates growth from decline, factories produced slightly less than the previous month, for the first time in several months.
WHY IT MATTERS
Weaker orders, lack of materials, and more expensive and slower international shipments hindered production. Suppliers and industrial workers feel it first; if it lasts, there may be fewer overtime hours and hires in the north and the Bajío.
AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO
For a long-term portfolio, it is a mixed signal: the industry is losing strength, but it is not in collapse and exports remain at record levels. It is advisable to read the next data to distinguish between a temporary dip and a trend.
