Saudi Arabia repairs its pipeline; oil drops to $102

WHAT HAPPENED

Saudi Arabia will reopen half of its pipeline in the coming days and the full capacity in about six weeks. Brent dropped to $102.41 per barrel, 2.3% less in one day and more than $5 since its recent peak.

WHY IT MATTERS

The announcement reduced fears of a global oil shortage. This may moderate the pressure on gasoline, diesel, and freight transport. Still, the barrel remains $12 above the projected $90 for the second half of the year and the risk has not disappeared.

AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

For the wallet, cheaper oil could prevent new sharp increases in gasoline, shipping, and some products over the next few weeks. For a long-term portfolio, it shows how an attack or a repair can quickly move prices and inflation.

💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS

“Oil dropped because supply expectations returned, but gasoline still faces pressure.”
