Oil rises to $82: the agreement for Hormuz is not enough to reopen it

WHAT HAPPENED

Brent rose 3.8% to $82.49 per barrel and WTI 2.8% to $77.29. Iran said its agreement with Oman will not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz while the U.S. naval blockade continues.

WHY IT MATTERS

About one-fifth of the world's oil passes through Hormuz. If the route remains limited, there is less certainty about supply: airlines, shipping companies, transportation, and logistics feel it first; then gasoline and imported products.

AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

For a long-term portfolio, expensive oil may pressure airlines, shipping companies, and transportation firms, but benefit energy producers. In your pocket, it may raise gasoline and freight costs a few weeks later.

💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS

“The agreement exists on paper, but as long as Hormuz is not open to all, oil will continue to charge a premium for risk.”
