South Korea: the stock market plummets 7% and breaks below 6,000 points

WHAT HAPPENED

The main stock market of South Korea fell more than 6% and dropped below 6,000 points. Samsung Electronics lost 7.7% and SK Hynix 8.8%. The drop also dragged down other Asian stock markets.

WHY IT MATTERS

Two fears came together: that spending on artificial intelligence will take longer to yield profits and that the Chinese CXMT will compete with Korean manufacturers. This first hits chips, cell phones, computers, and data centers.

AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

Pension funds, Afores, or funds that have Asian technology companies may drop sharply. If 100,000 pesos were heavily exposed to them, that portion could be worth about 93,000 to 94,000 pesos today. It is a loss of current value, not necessarily definitive.

💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS

“Doubts about whether artificial intelligence will yield profits and Chinese competition caused Asia to sell chips and technology stocks simultaneously.”
