Trump pauses 3 days the 50% tariff on Canadian products

WHAT HAPPENED

The United States and Canada have paused until Friday a 50% tariff on about $20 billion in Canadian products, such as beer, cement, clothing, and dairy. The final agreement is not yet closed.

WHY IT MATTERS

The tariff is a tax on imports. If applied, a $100 product could cost up to $150 before reaching the consumer. Construction, food, beverages, and cross-border trade would feel the impact first.

AND FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

For a long-term portfolio, the pause currently reduces the risk of higher prices and trade retaliation, but leaves uncertainty. Construction, consumer, and trade companies between both countries could face different costs depending on the final agreement.

💬 TELL IT LIKE THIS

“The pause currently avoids the price shock, but the bill remains pending until the United States and Canada sign the final agreement.”
